Clarinet/Bass Clarinet Education
Amy Zuidema is a dedicated educator with over a decade of diverse teaching experience. She managed a private studio in Michigan before relocating to New York, where she taught clarinet and bass clarinet as a graduate assistant and lecturer at Ithaca College for three years. In the Netherlands, Amy further honed her skills by adopting European teaching methods, conducting private lessons, and adapting to language barriers. She works with students of all ages, embracing a neurodivergent-friendly teaching style.
Specializing in contemporary performance and bass clarinet, Amy is passionate about expanding the instrument’s possibilities. She encourages her students to move beyond traditional classical boundaries, helping them discover and express their unique artistic voices. Drawing from her experience in multiple musical genres and her love for improvisation and composition, Amy provides both the technical foundation and creative inspiration needed to explore music with openness, compassion, and innovation.

Amy is experienced in facilitating workshops on improvisation and social advocacy. Utilizing Walter Thompson’s live compositional method of soundpainting, she conducts engaging live compositional and improvisational workshops for novice musicians, children, and professionals alike.
